Sink or float

Room10 have been experimenting with paper clips and tissue paper. First we got a bowl and then filled it with water. Next we put a paper clip in the water to see if would float or sink but it sunk. After we tried putting the paper clip on a piece of paper towel and put it in the water. Next we got a pencil and pushed the paper away so the paper clip floated. After that we put the paper clip on the water waited a few seconds and then it floated. Mrs Atherton then sent us away to get into groups of 3 or 4 so we could get the paper clips, the piece of paper towel, the bowl and a pencil. Together we carried out the experiment and tried other items and used other light wight metal objects. Finally we had to write about the experiments and what we did.

Year 5's leave a lasting impression!

It is important for us to build positive relationships with our people in our community. While the year 6 children were busy working through their cycle safe programme, the year 5 children were busy developing skills of their own, TEACHING!
This term we have decided to spend some time sharing our Waltham Stars Curriculum with the children at the preschool. We've decided to specifically target 4 year old's with the idea that the activities we plan to do with them will help their preparation for school. We have chosen to start with Literacy and Numeracy.
We had a successful time and both groups of children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. We will be planning for our next session!

Welcome to Room 10 2015 - This is us!

Last week, it was Room 10's turn to present and host School Assembly. We had so many events last week that I admit I was wondering whether or not I would have time to fit all the organisation in. It turns out I needn't have worried. With all our Year 6 students participating in Christchurch City councils cycle safe programme, as well as the Student road patrol refresher courses run by the New Zealand Police. Room 10 was a significantly smaller class. Fortunately for us we had two very capable year 5 students, Isaiah and Caleb who coordinated the Room 10 assembly. They were supported by Degan and Geordan who ran the slide show and music. I was very impressed with this team of year 5's. They have definitely set the bar high for our future assemblies this year. Here is the movie that Isaiah and Caleb made. It's hilarious, Super job boys!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. We all cringed when we heard our voices on camera!
